Cosmetic Grade Phenylethyl Resorcinol Symwhite 377 Powder
Products Description
Phenylethyl Resorcinol (also known as Symwhite 377) is an ingredient widely used in cosmetics and skin care products, mainly for whitening and anti-oxidation.
Phenyethyl resorcinol based products are known to be light and easily absorbed by the skin. As mentioned earlier, it halts melanin formation thus problems like hyperpigmentation can be addressed easily. It also possesses antioxidant activity. When our skin gets exposed to the environment, because of environmental pollutants/ harmful sun rays, free radical exposure can reach up to the cellular level and may start damaging the skin. PR scavenges off free radicals, it gets exchanged for important skin proteins. So the skin protein can still retain their original structure, which helps skin cure the early aging signs like wrinkles, fine lines, and dark patches formed on the skin. It also retains moisture in the skin and conditions it. It heals the skin and makes it look much more even-toned. It may help sustain the product for longer because of the anti-oxidant nature. It is used in moisturizers, creams, lotions, bath products, and other skin and hair care products.
It is slightly soluble in water. Under normal temperature conditions, the solubility of phenylethyl resorcinol in water is relatively low, falling into the category of being slightly soluble.
It is easily soluble in organic solvents. It is readily soluble in propylene glycol and polar oils. For example, in cosmetic formulations, propylene glycol and other alcohol solvents are often used to dissolve phenylethyl resorcinol so that it can be better applied in various whitening products. In addition, phenylethyl resorcinol also has a certain degree of solubility in chloroform and ethyl acetate, though the solubility level is relatively low and it is slightly soluble in them.

Function
- Whitening and Freckle Fading
- Inhibiting Melanin Production: Phenylethyl resorcinol can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase in cells, preventing the conversion of tyrosine into dopa, and thus reducing the synthesis of melanin at its source to achieve a whitening effect. Its ability to inhibit tyrosinase is more than 20 times that of kojic acid and about 100 times that of α-arbutin. It can significantly inhibit the activity of tyrosinase in melanocytes even at a low concentration of 0.1%.
- Fading Pigmentation: It effectively reduces the already generated melanin and has a positive effect on fading various pigmentations such as chloasma, freckles, and sunspots. Clinical studies have shown that after using products containing phenylethyl resorcinol for a period of time, the color of pigmentations will gradually become lighter and the area will shrink.
- Antioxidation
- Scavenging Free Radicals: It has stronger antioxidant properties than VE, VC, BHT, etc. It can effectively scavenge free radicals generated during the metabolic process of skin cells and due to external environmental factors, protecting skin cells from oxidative damage and slowing down the aging process of the skin.
- Preventing Photoaging: It can reduce the damage caused by ultraviolet rays to the skin and prevent skin photoaging caused by long-term sun exposure, such as rough skin, sagging, and deepening of wrinkles.
- Anti-aging
- Promoting Collagen Synthesis: It helps maintain the elasticity and firmness of the skin, reduces the formation of wrinkles, makes the skin smoother and more delicate, and presents a youthful appearance.
- Evening Skin Tone: It improves the problem of uneven skin tone, makes the whole skin look brighter, more translucent, and emits a healthy luster, enhancing the overall texture of the skin.
- Other Applications
- Soothing the Skin: In some cosmetics containing phenylethyl resorcinol, ingredients with soothing effects will be combined to jointly soothe the skin, reducing discomfort caused by external stimuli or the skin's own sensitivity and keeping the skin in a stable state.
- Controlling Oil and Treating Acne: Its antioxidant effect and the role in regulating the oil secretion of the skin are helpful for improving the oil secretion condition of oily skin, reducing the occurrence of acne, and also have a certain effect on fading acne marks that have already formed.
