Cosmetic Grade Surfactant Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate powder
Products Description
Sodium (disodium) Cocoyl Glutamate is a conjugate of coconut oil fatty acids and glutamic acid present in the collagen. It is a mild anionic surfactant and detergent with excellent skin compatibility used in cleansing formulations based on mostly botanical ingredients.
Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate (DSCG) has been compared with a standard surfactant Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) for a degreasing effect on the skin. Results were interesting, both detergents notably decreased the sebum levels, but in the case of SLES, the sebum level increased again after the application break. DSCG showed a prolonged effect in preventing reactive seborrhoea.
So, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is an ideal botanical ingredient for face cleansing formulations that eliminate excess sebum and lessen conditions for the development of acne. Intensive cleansing care can feel good - thanks to the gentle clean-rinsing. It transforms skincare products into a new sensory experience: shower gels, liquid soaps, or facial cleansers for intensive cleansing that is exceptionally kind to the skin. Disodium cocoyl glutamate is also dermatologically safe and has exceptional biodegradability (ecologically safe). Simply the perfect finishing touch to any skincare formulation.

Application
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a natural surfactant commonly used in personal care products. It is an ingredient derived from coconut oil and glutamic acid (an amino acid) that has gentle cleansing, moisturizing and lathering properties.
As a surfactant, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate plays a cleansing role in products such as shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers, effectively removing dirt and oil from skin and hair without causing irritation or drying. It can also produce rich foam and enhance the product use experience.
Due to its natural origin and mild properties, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is suitable for use in products for sensitive skin and hair, where it can help retain skin and hair moisture and reduce dryness and tightness.
Sodium cocoyl glutamate is a mild cleansing agent derived from coconut oil and the amino acid glutamic acid. It’s considered non-irritating in concentrations up to 10%. This gentle surfactant produces a rich lather that has a stabilizing effect on the bubbles, allowing them to last longer before breaking down. It’s also used to help soften (remove excess minerals from) hard water, allowing cleansers to work to their full potential. In fact, research has shown it’s an effective option for sensitive, oily skin when compared with standard sulfate cleansing agents. Usage levels of sodium cocoyl glutamate in skin care range from 2–30% based on formulary needs and whether it’s the primary or secondary surfactant. These levels are considered safe as used in rinse-off products.
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a magical ingredient that is light on skin and hair, while also providing multiple benefits when added to the formulations. It is used in a range of products such as shampoos, toothpaste, liquid soaps, etc.
- Skin care: It is a cleansing agent and a good emulsifier that leaves the skin gentler, cleaner, conditioned and smoother without being too harsh. This ingredient is effective for sensitive or oily skin types.
- Hair care: It has foaming qualities to it. When in formulations, it forms a rich lather that feels good and does not irritate the hair or scalp. It has a stabilizing effect on the bubbles, which means that they last longer before breaking down.
