    • PH Value:PH of saturated solution: 2.4
    • Solubility:Water: about 0.2% at 20oC, about 1.7% at 75oC (by adding about 5% of sodium phosphate or another neutral salt, solubility of salicylic acid in water is increased to about 1.8%). Alcohol (ethanol): about 14% in pure ethanol, about 0.5% in 20% ethanol. Propylene glycol: about 3-6%. Glycerin: about 1.6%. Octyldodecanol: about 15-20%

    • Manufacture:Salicylic acid is prepared from dry sodium phenoxide in a stream of carbon dioxide. It is further purified by crystallizing the sodium salicylate from water at a temperature not exceeding 20 deg C.

    Organic beta hydroxy acid (chemical name: 2-hydroxybenzoic acid), occurs naturally in various plants. Melting Point: 159°C (318°F).

    Salicylic Acid Powder ≥99.5% USP Grade is a cosmetic-grade product that, in creams and solutions, can be used topically for treating several skin conditions that involve overgrowth of cells, scaling, calluses, warts, dandruff, etc. It is also effective for acne treatment and penetrates the skin to remove damaged cells clogging pores.

    Salicylic Acid Powder ≥99.5% USP Grade is in compliance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) making it suitable for skincare products, drugs, and similar applications such as the manufacture of soap, shampoo, and cosmetics. The sodium salt of acid is added to mouthwashes and toothpastes to fight bacteria build up.

    *Medical field

    • Antipyretic and analgesic drugs: It is the main raw material for synthesizing aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). Aspirin is a commonly used antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory drug that can be used to relieve headaches, toothaches, neuralgia, muscle pain, and prevent cardiovascular diseases.
    • Treating skin diseases: It has the ability to dissolve keratin and is a type of keratin softener that can be used to treat skin diseases such as acne, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and ichthyosis. By dissolving keratin in the stratum corneum of the skin, the stratum corneum is shed, promoting skin metabolism, and also having certain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

    • Synthetic dyes and fragrances: are important intermediates for synthesizing various dyes and fragrances. Through chemical reactions, salicylic acid can be converted into various compounds with specific colors and aromas, which are widely used in industries such as textiles, printing and dyeing, and fragrances.

    Application

    Peels and exfoliant products. Anti-acne products (max. 2%). Anti-dandruff products (max 3%). Wart-removing products (max. concentration depends on type of plaster vehicle used).

    Formulation Guide

    Typical use level 0.5-3%. Typically, it is added to the water phase of formulas but it is only slightly soluble in water. If used at concentrations higher than 2%, octyldodecanol or propylene glycol should be used as solvent. Salicylic acid can be added also in powder form to a finished cream or lotion without dissolving it first in water or another solvent.
